Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Intergovernmental Agreement – Variation 2025

This variation to the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) agreement is between the Commonwealth of Australia and the States and Territories.

The parties acknowledge the WELS scheme’s long‑standing value in saving water and agree to keep legislation supporting water efficiency labelling and minimum standards.

They also agree the laws should be nationally consistent, using powers from all jurisdictions, and that the scheme should be run cooperatively across the Commonwealth, States and Territories to ensure it remains effective and efficient.
