The Intergovernmental Agreement on Fuel Excise Relief 2026 commits all jurisdictions to contributing to a national coordinated Fuel Excise Relief Program to reduce cost-of-living pressures and support economic activity. The program reduces fuel excise and excise equivalent customs rates for 3 months from 1 April 2026 to 30 June 2026. The states agree to compensate the Commonwealth for a portion of the lost revenue relating to the reduction.
The agreement came into effect on 27 April 2026, when the first state countersigned the agreement.
