The Intergovernmental Agreement on the Great Barrier Reef 2024 provides a framework for the Australian and Queensland governments to work together to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
It recognises that pressures on the Reef can't be solved alone. The Agreement provides a coordinated approach to protect the Reef and recognises that governments must work together to deliver major programs.
The agreement reflects the shared vision for the future outlined in the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan and renews the Australian and Queensland governments’ commitment to protecting the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, including its Outstanding Universal Value.
The agreement, signed by the Prime Minister and Queensland Premier, came into effect on 30 September 2024.
